Welcome to Macaroni Kid

Issaquah, Sammamish, Snoqualmie, North Bend and Fall City

Salmon.  Pajamas.  Costumes.  Oh my!  Fall is here, and the beginning of October is proving to be a busy time of year for local parents and kids!  Just as we settle into the new school year routine, we'll be celebrating salmon, reading for a record, and swapping costumes!

This weekend our local area pulls out all the stops to welcome home the salmon.  The salmon who have been swimming against strong currents, hundreds of miles upstream, arriving in shallow streams to spawn. Thus securing the salmon population.  It’s an amazing thing!  And Salmon Days Festival is filled with more FREE FAMILY FUN than you'll know what to do with!

Next week, Macaroni Kid is bringing two national events to our community!  We love hosting events because it's a chance to connect with YOU!

On October 6, we are supporting Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®— a national campaign that mobilizes adults and children to close the early education achievement gap by setting a reading world record.  Please join us for a Pajama Party Storytime at Ravens Books in Gilman Village.

On October 8, we are thrilled to partner with Febreze to bring National Costume Swap Day to both Small Threads in Issaquah and Totz in North Bend.  Between now and the 8th, drop off costumes at either location during regular business hours.  You'll be given a ticket to come back to swap on Saturday morning!  Both of our swaps are being supported by local businesses, which means we've got goodies for you!  CLICK HERE to find out more.

Along with these events, today's newsletter includes a jam-packed CALENDAR and a few other goodies just for you ...

And there's plenty MORE ... Below the Events

Wishing you a fun-filled week ahead,

 Diana ([email protected])

Go Green! Swap Your Costumes!

Bring your costumes to Small Threads in Issaquah or Totz in North Bend TODAY!

This year my daughter will celebrate her fifth Halloween.  I can easily remember each costume she has worn.  There was the blue cow, a hooded sleeper borrowed from a neighbor, and the lion, handed down from cousins in Missouri.  My favorite was the year she dressed as a cowgirl.  The little red shirt with white piping she worn was mine from childhood. I wore it for my second Halloween.  My sister wore it, and her daughter wore it.  Someday, my youngest daughter will wear it, too.  The photo that you ...

Making Birthday Dreams Come True

“Your birthday is a special time to celebrate the gift of 'you' to the world.”

A birthday party is not only cake and gifts, but also a way for those who love you to remind you that you are special and worthy of celebrating!

In an ideal world, every child would get that reminder.  Every child would know the wonder and awe of a birthday party.  But the truth of the matter is that not all families are in a position to provide such a celebration.

Which is exactly why ...

Why Do Kumon Families Stay with Kumon?

Cindy McVay, M.Ed., Kumon Math and Reading Centers

Why do Kumon Families stay in Kumon when their children are already achieving above grade level? In addition to making the most of the years before their child fills out college applications, what about scheduling Kumon time and the overall well-being and happiness of your child?

I contend that Kumon Families stay in Kumon only if it continues to be FUN. What makes Kumon fun? What makes Kumon Students WANT to do Kumon even though they are already achieving above grade level?

I've invited Kumon Families all over the ...

Macaroni Plays

My Little Pony

When evaluating an app for kids, I look for two elements; first, can my child use the app by themselves, and second, is there a fun way my child and I play with the app together.   My Little Pony: Twilight Sparkle, Teacher for a Day from Ruckus Media and Hasbro gets a big “yes” on both counts.

My Little Pony: Twilight Sparkle, Teacher for a Day is primarily a storybook with two reading modes.   In the “read to me” mode, the app reads the story and highlights the words in ...
