I'll be honest.  My house has been completely overtaken by toys - both large and small.  I thrive on organization, so I have bins and buckets and shelves and hooks.  However none of my systems were working for our rather large collection of Legos.

Five Spice Pork Lettuce Wraps


Serves 8

Light on texture but not on flavor, these lettuce wraps are welcomed after all the heavy holiday meals, yet still warms the soul.  Using exotic Chinese five spice and a moist cooking technique called braising, this recipe allows for juicy slow cooked meat that plays nicely with clean crisp butter lettuce. Also delicious paired with a cold beer.

Saturday, December 3 - SNOQUALMIE: Holiday Tree Lighting Festivities

Horse-drawn carriage rides and caroling will begin at 5:30 p.m. with stops at two locations: Railroad Park on SE King Street and the corner of Falls Ave SE and SE River Street adjacent to Carmichael’s True Value.  The stores will be open late for holiday shopping and merchants will have treats for kids.  Back at Railroad Park, warm up with hot cocoa, apple cider, and cookies and enjoy the sounds of the Sno-Valley Winds as they play traditional holiday music.  Santa will light up the holiday tree in the Railroad Park gazebo at 6:30 p.m. and you might even catch a glimpse of Rudolph! For the rest of the evening, children can visit with Santa in the gazebo.

ONGOING: This all-new permanent exhibit at the Gilman Town Hall tells the story of Issaquah's past through hundreds of photographs and artifacts (many never before on display) and a variety of interactive elements. Come see one of Issaquah's original water pipes, a rare Native American fur trade knife, and graffiti hidden for 75 years inside the walls of the fish hatchery. Set off an imaginary charge with an authentic dynamite blaster, ring a logging camp bell, listen to the music of the Squak Valley Hot Shots -- and much more!

MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY's -ONLY ON WHEN SCHOOL IS IN SESSION: The Sno-Valley Indoor Playground, a non-profit, parent-run organization - an indoor playground for kids 0-5 and is located at the Community Center at Si View Park in North Bend! We are completelty volunteer run! Parents (etc) set up and break down the play areas for each session. We have four zones - the fast lane with trikes and cars, the climbing bridge, giant foam blocks, and a section for the little ones! Sessions are 9:30-11:30am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the school year.

ONGOING: Follow the railroad tracks to historic downtown Issaquah and visit the Issaquah Depot, currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Railroad memorabilia is on display, along with a vintage caboose and other railroad cars. Pictures of Issaquah's past show you the town as it was in early days. Tours are available by appointment.

I've been scouring the web and taking note whenever I dine out  and found a handful of local restaurants that offer a Kids Eat Free (or at least cheap) deal. Remember that, in most cases, you must have one paying adult for each child.
