QUICK LINKS:

CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Kevin Houghton

Mr. Houghton, from Issaquah High School, wins December Teacher of the Month!

Snoqualmie Valley-Issaquah Macaroni Kid, The Cascade Team, The Woodman Lodge, Therapeutic Health of North Bend and Issaquah Trophy & Awards would like to congratulate Mr. Kevin Houghton from Issaquah High School for being named Teacher of the Month for December 2011.

Here is the nomination:

After leaving a lucrative job as an engineer, my husband decided to become a teacher in his early thirties.  Being a high school math teacher, he has turned "math-phobics" into math fans.  His approach to teaching is based on the principle that students need to learn to think.  He empowers his students with problem solving skills as they navigate their way through a geometry proof or design a 3D puzzle cube.

Mr. Houghton's students feel safe in his class where he uses humor, storytelling, organization and structure to create an environment in which learning becomes fun. Countless times, his students (& their parents) have told me how he is their favorite teacher.  Students in his class go from loathing math to loving it!

As a former teacher myself, I know firsthand the demands of the job.  I am utterly impressed with my husband's command of his role as a teacher.  I see firsthand the papers he corrects nightly and the dedication he puts into preparing his lessons on the weekend.  In my book, he is a model teacher who is the most deserving top teacher in the field.

Please join us in congratulating Kevin Houghton on being Teacher of the Month for December 2011.

Mr. Houghton teaches Math, Engineering & Robotics at Issaquah High School in the Issaquah School District.  Please join us in congratulating this amazing teacher!
