Family-friendly Local Happenings from Macaroni Kid

Issaquah, Sammamish, Snoqualmie, North Bend and Fall City

"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,
to pick up a book and read to a child."

Tomorrow - March 2nd - is National Read Across America Day.  It also happens to be Dr. Seuss' birthday ... no accident or mere coincidence here.

This is a day designated to celebrate reading and the impact Dr. Seuss and his stories have had on generations of young readers.

This is also a great opportunity to read a book (or a dozen) with your kids.  And why not make it a Dr. Seuss book?  I am certain there's at least one (or a dozen) living on a shelf in your house right now!

Macaroni Kid also encourages you to attend one of several local events set to celebrate the day.  In fact, we would love to see you at Swedish/Issaquah on Friday morning.  From 9:00 am to 10:30 am, you'll find breakfast being served in Café 1910 as well as crafts sponsored by Macaroni Kid and Stroller Strides.  At 10:30 am gather around the fireplace in the lobby to listen to a reading of a featured Dr. Seuss story and other books.

You could also turn to the great-and-powerful internet ...
We suggest the official Seussville website and our Pinterest Board created just for the occasion.

Before you snuggle up to read a book or head out the door to get your Seuss-on, check out the articles we have for you:

“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.”

PRESCHOOL DIRECTORY

As Diana and I both know, sending our babies off to preschool isn't easy.  Before we can even worry about separation anxiety (theirs and ours), we have to consider philosphies, location, cost, and schedule.  But choices are a good thing, and we have been hard at work creating a resource that is sure to make this decision a little easier ... our NEW Macaroni Kid Preschool Directory!

Below are direct links to all the schools currently listed:

BLT (etc.) Salad with Honey-Citrus Vinaigrette

My recent trip to Southern California inspired this fresh and delicious recipe.  I was able to pick grapefruit, lemons and oranges right off their trees, and I opened them up when they were still warm from the sun and very juicy. They had the right combination of sweet, tart, tangy, fresh and clean. You can definitely make this recipe all your own by adding or subtracting what you like.

Enjoy this fresh and uplifting salad during these cold days of winter.

Just Between Friends - March 23-25

Just Between Friends, resale or retail?

The difference is hard to tell!

Today’s moms have more choices than ever before in regard to products and services for raising children. There are as many stroller models as cars on a lot, but the bulk of these cutting-edge items also have a very short “useful” lifetime with any child. This common dilemma leaves parents with a wealth of gently-used, and some still new, clothing, baby equipment, toys, furniture and more.

Just Between Friends of Issaquah offers Seattle families a semi-annual option ...

Oh, the Stories You'll Read ... Online

“The more that you read,

the more things you will know.

The more that you learn,

the more places you'll go.”

While I always make time to read {actual} books, I think even Dr. Seuss would agree there are so many great online reading resources.  From supporting emergent literacy (learning how to read) and experiencing a story in a different way (hearing it read aloud or seeing it in action) to making sure every child has the chance to read books ... you'll find great websites for reading with ...

Kids Eat FREE {or Cheap}

Want to treat your family to a dinner out without breaking the bank?

I've been scouring the web and taking note whenever I dine out  and found a handful of local restaurants that offer a Kids Eat Free (or at least cheap) deal. Remember that, in most cases, you must have one paying adult for each child.

Take a look at the ones I've come across and PLEASE email us with the ones you know about.  Hopefully, together, we can compose an impressive list of kid-friendly and wallet-friendly dining options for our readers!
