Children are naturally curious and eager to learn. Satisfy their curiosity by providing opportunities to learn and explore new things on their own. Here’s a few ideas to help you get started:
Encourage independent learning
When your child has a question about a subject, encourage him or her to learn about it rather than simply providing the answer. For example, if your child is interested in learning more about the solar system, visit a nearby planetarium or your local library to help your child discover more about the subject.
Foster critical thinking skills
Respond to your child’s questions with a few of your own. Ask why he or she thinks something works or why a particular event happened. Doing so can help your child begin to think critically. When reading with your child, try to apply a few of these reading tips.
Be a learning advocate
Learning is a life-long process. By developing deep understanding for an answer through additional research or practice, the acquired knowledge can become easier to remember. Try to encourage your child to consider questions as exciting learning opportunities.
