Do Something GREAT Day - September 20, 2014

Our Macaroni Kid Make a Difference Day has a new name!

August 7, 2014
We hope you've heard!  Macaroni Kid has big plans for our Do Something GREAT Day in September.  Please spread the word!

Diana and I are working hard to inspire and empower local parents and their kids to take on a community service project with our support.

Do Something Great Day simply means deciding to model kindness for your kids.  To work together as a family to do something good.  You can support a local non-profit, express appreciation, or give to those in need.  Really the name says it all, Do Something Great - big or small, grand or subtle.

We are currently recruiting familes and groups who will commit to hosting an event on September 20 (or the week before) - anything from a lemonade stand or garage sale to a diaper drive or ice cream social.

In the past two weeks, we inspired you with 14 project examples and provided you with the framework for planning your own project for Do Something GREAT Day.

The response already has been very promising.  We've heard from several families and a few local groups, as well as a handful of non-profits who need our help.

This week we want to update you on some of the projects that are already in the works.
  • The Parker Family is hosting a Milk+Bookies Storytime at Let's Play Sammamish.
  • Eastside Baby Corner is providing a special Parent/Child volunteer time on Saturday morning - more details about that coming soon!
  • Encompass has a specific supply need for their Parent-Child Home; we are looking for families to organize a drive.
  • We're looking for families or a group to make goodie bags for Birthday Dreams.
  • We're working on a possible Pajama Party fundraiser - more details about that coming soon!
  • A local Pampered Chef consultant is going to host a cookie baking party;  we need families or a group to support a Cookies for Kids Cancer Bake Sale.
Ultimately, you dream up the idea, and we will help make it happen.  Diana and I will connect you to local businesses who are willing to support our Do Something GREAT Day vision and your efforts.  We will serve as the media sponsor and handle online promotion and create and send a press release to local news outlets.  Print materials will be designed and distributed. Your event will be listed on our Calendar, and and you can count on a strong social media presence.  All of this will support your plans and encourage participation from other local families.

Together we can make a difference in our communities, and most importantly, we will impress upon our children the importance of kindness, compassion, and volunteering.
