Local Farmers Markets

Issaquah, Sammamish, Carnation, Duvall, North Bend

May 21, 2015
I am a huge fan of the farmers market.  Strolling around with reusable bag in hand, sampling new foods, hand-picking the most beautiful seasonal produce, and chatting it up with friendly vendors...grocery shopping at its finest!

One of the many great things about living in the Snoqualmie Valley is the abundance of farmers markets that are available this time of year.   Chances are there is one near where you live! We've compiled a list of five within short driving distance.  If you haven't already discovered the beauty of the farmers market, try one out this week ... you won't be disappointed!

Farmers Markets are inherently kid-friendly, however Macaroni Kid also wants to share a few ideas for making the most of your time at the market and tap into your child's natural curiosity.

Scavenger Hunt - Before you head out the door - or while you're riding in the car - create a simple hunt with a focus on topics like colors, sizes, comparisons.

I Spy - My four year old loves to grab a treat and head for the sidelines - just beyond the action of the market.  We can take in the "big picture" of the market and play a game of I Spy.

Show Me the Money - The farmers market is the perfect place for a lesson in spending.  As a family, we have a goal of spending $20 everytime we go - and we make decisions together about what we are going to buy.  In a world of credit cards, I love that my daughter gets to see actual money exchanging hands.  Our first trip to the market this season included $5 for a pony ride, $5 for a bouquet of flowers, $5 for fresh produce, and $5 for mini donuts!
