It Takes A Village...

Cindy McVay, M.Ed., Kumon Math and Reading Centers

December 15, 2011

It takes a village and we've certainly got a really great village!

Many thanks to teachers, students, parents, school board members, superintendents, principals, curriculum developers, as well as those who develop and implement testing instruments; those who prepare teachers and help them to continue their development; those who carry out research and pilot new teacher/principal evaluation frameworks; PTSA leaders, School Foundations leaders, legislators at the state level, mayors and city council members who disseminate tax dollars for school districts.

Thank you one and all for carrying the torch for math reform and student success in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Positive results have been achieved in 2011 with thanks to a “consistent, wise, community-wide effort.”

Reference the final report of the National Math Advisory Panel (NMAP) and realize our combined efforts have brought about change culminating the year end release of new legislation regarding teacher/principal evaluation. Many thanks to ISD for piloting the new framework. I truly believe evaluating teachers based on the success of their students will raise the bar on the content of STEM curriculum. Student success equals teacher success.

What a way to end the year! Looking forward to 2012!
