Giving Tree Lighting Celebrates Music and Community

Donations fill a truck for Eastside Baby Corner at annual choral music event in Issaquah Highlands

December 5, 2019

Music and community were the hallmarks of the recent Giving Tree Lighting at Grand Ridge Plaza. The annual event in Issaquah Highlands welcomed more than 2,500 attendees and ushered in the season of giving with wonderful performances by five school choirs—all in support of Eastside Baby Corner

Each year, Grand Ridge Plaza in Issaquah Highlands invites school choirs to perform at its open-air plaza to “sing in” the season and support a local nonprofit organization. This year, the shopping center was thrilled to welcome more than 500 elementary school students and their teachers to help light the Giving Tree. Participating schools hailed from the Issaquah School District, which spans a large area across five cities. The choirs featured fourth- and fifth-graders from Apollo Elementary School (Renton), Briarwood Elementary School (Renton), Clark Elementary School (Issaquah), Maple Hills Elementary School (Renton), and Newcastle Elementary School (Newcastle).

Community members arrived with boxes and bags filled with donations for the nonprofit. By the time the tree was lit and sparkling, the Eastside Baby Corner truck was overflowing with donations of clothing, diapers, toys, boots, shoes and much more.

There’s still time to support Eastside Baby Corner this holiday season: take a wish tag from the Giving Tree, purchase the item and drop it off at one of several Grand Ridge Plaza merchants including Big Fish Grill, Snapdoodle Toys & Games, PinkaBella Cupcakes, and Carter’s. Or, browse their most-needed items list and drop it off before December 20. Donations can be new or gently-used.

Thank you to the many choirs for participating in this special event to help benefit the community at large—and thank you to all participants and guests for giving back to Eastside Baby Corner.
