Update for Elementary Families (K-5) Regarding January Adjustments

We do not yet have a specific return date identified for in-person learning. However, our district is moving forward with several steps to prepare for a smooth transition to hybrid learning schedules, for when we are able to serve more students at school. This includes changes to elementary class rosters that will enable future placement in an AM or PM cohort, based on parent survey preferences, that may result in adjustments to some students’ assigned teachers. On Tuesday, December 15, all elementary families will receive communication from their school, confirming their teacher placement that will go into effect after winter break, on January 4, 2021. Please watch for more details coming next week. In the meantime, we will continue with our 100% remote schedule.

Update for Secondary Families (6-12) Regarding Student Interventions

At the School Board meeting last night, the Board gave approval for our secondary schools to move forward, on a small scale, with some in-person student interventions for at-risk students who are struggling with remote learning. Chief Kanim Middle School and Mount Si High School plan to pilot this program, starting next week Dec. 14-18, with a small group of students who they are contacting directly. If this approach turns out to be a safe, effective way to support our most vulnerable students, other SVSD secondary schools will introduce similar plans after Winter Break. SVSD Teachers Renew their National Board Certification

Kudos to five Snoqualmie Valley educators for their commitment to high professional teaching standards in renewing their National Board Certification. Twin Falls Middle School teachers Dawn Frearson, Erin Lampe and Emily Rourke; along with teacher Julie Gardunia and Math Interventionist Jenni Geel, both at North Bend Elementary, have earned this accomplishment.

Free School Meals for Children 0-18 Years through End of School Year

Since August 31, our Food Services team, with help from our bus drivers, has served more than 52,500 meals to children throughout our community – that’s 4,000 per week on average! Families can access free breakfast and lunch meals “to go” Monday-Friday, 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Also on Fridays at OES, NBES, FCES, CVES and MSHS, the Helping Hands Ministry from Life Church offers food for families to help feed students on the weekends through their Weekend Backpack Program.

Special Offer: Free Winter Coats for Students (while supplies last)

Our District recently received a generous donation from Operation Warm of 120 new coats for Snoqualmie Valley students in need. We invited families who qualify for free and reduced price meals to sign up for sizes they may need for their students, and our counselors are working to distribute coats to those families who submitted a request. Since there are some remaining coats, we will make them available at three school locations – Opstad Elementary, North Bend Elementary, and Fall City Elementary – during the lunch distribution hour TODAY, Friday, December 11, 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  Coats will be offered on a first-come first-served basis, while supplies last. They are individually wrapped and available in a variety of sizes and colors. If your student needs a new warm coat, please check out this opportunity Friday.
