5 Reasons to Book a Vacation to Sullivan Catskills, N.Y.

August 6, 2022

Do you want to take a family vacation somewhere different and unique?

We know JUST the place! Fifteen Macaroni KID publishers (including me!) took a trip this month to the Sullivan Catskills in New York State.

And it was SO. MUCH. FUN. The Sullivan Catskills is incredible for family fun. From age 2 to 102 ... there is something for everyone.

Here are our top 5 reasons to book a Sullivan Catskills vacation today:

1. It's home to New York’s BIGGEST Indoor Waterpark

Kartrite Resort and Waterpark is a 324-suite lodge-style resort that has everything from shopping, restaurants, fire pits for s'mores, movies on the big screen for kids, an arcade, a candy and ice cream shop ... and a fabulously bright and inviting indoor waterpark that is the biggest in New York state! Our publishers enjoyed it all ... and can't wait to take our families back for more!

The bright and modern Kartrite Resort and Waterpark is a perfect home base for families when staying in the Sullivan Catskills.

2. You can raft the Delaware River

Experiencing the Delaware River with Lander’s River Trips is a must-do! We took a 5-mile journey down the river and the scenery was stunning. We even saw numerous bald eagles fly above us. This area is a well-known bald eagle nesting area.

We also loved choosing Lander's for our rafting adventure because it's been a family-owned business here since 1955. If you are so fortunate to meet Rick Lander while visiting, you will see how proud he is of what Lander’s is today. He tells the story of his family business to everyone he sees!

3. Check out the original Woodstock site

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is where Woodstock took place in 1969. You can stand on the exact spot that the stage of Woodstock was and look up to the spot where 500,000 young people gathered for the 3-day music fest. The hill is now a beautifully well-maintained grass field with a peace sign mowed into it.

Nearby is a 15,000-seat amphitheater where top bands play today.

We also had a chance to visit the Museum at Bethel Woods, which is a tribute to not just Woodstock, but the entire 1960s. It was super educational and quite fascinating.

4. Explore Dove Trail

The Dove Trail is a collection of 50 dove sculptures perched in villages, towns, and at several tourism businesses that are meant to represent the 50-year anniversary of Woodstock. Each dove is hand-painted by a local artist and inspired by the legendary event held here in 1969.

5. Play at the casinos

While there's lots of family fun to be had, there's also adults-only fun too! The Resorts World Catskills is just a short jaunt from the Kartrite and its 100,000-square foot casino has 1,600 slot machines, more than 150 live table games, sports betting, and more! Definitely a good time.
