Run With the Kokanee

By FLSSP September 17, 2022

Support the Kokanee Salmon recovery work of the Bellevue-Issaquah Chapter of Trout Unlimited by running through the fall colors of Lake Sammamish State Park.

New for this year: To avoid major construction in the park, the course is a 5k out-and-back along the smoothly-paved East Lake Sammamish Trail.  Participants in the 5k will do this out-and-back once, and 10k participants will do it twice.

The new course map will be posted soon.

Schedule

8:30am – Check-in and day-of-event registration opens

9:30am – Race Start

10:30am – Raffle and awards

12:00pm – Course closes

Aid Station
There will be one aid station at the turn-around point, about 1.6 miles into the course. There will be an additional aid station near the start/finish for the 10k runners, making for three aid stations on the 10k course.

Aid stations offer water, electrolyte drink, and some carbohydrate-rich or salty foods, such as cookies, pieces of energy bar, gels, chews, chips, bagel, fruity candy, fig bars, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and/or bananas.

Kokanee salmon are unique to Lake Sammamish and are in danger of becoming extinct. Some of Trout Unlimited’s work includes protecting the Kokanee’s access to spawning areas, educating fisherman to properly identify Kokanee, educating residents about environmentally-friendly lawn care, and more.
