Tips for Great Baby Pictures

August 4, 2011

Many times trying to get the best baby photo is a challenge.  They wiggle, frown, turn upside down, and often just aren't interested in being still and cooperating with us.  We've found a few ways to get great baby photos of your little ones.

1 - Make sure all the prep work is done.  Ensure that there is a good backdrop.  A solid neutral tone in the background works well as this doesn't take too much attention off of the baby.  Also ensure that the baby has been fed,  and that its his/her time of the day.  We've got a little one that isn't a morning person, so we shoot her photos late morning after she's woken up a bit.

2 - Dress it up a bit.   Pick a theme and add some accessories to your pictures.  Hair bows, tights, tutu's and teddy bears for the girls and hats, sun glasses, footballs works well with the boys.  Color coordination and sticking with the theme is key here.  Make sure to pick something that your baby loves and then chose colors from that.  Our daughter loves ballerinas and likes to dress up in pink tutu's so that's how we photograph her.  She's happy, we're happy.

3 - Make Noise.  There's nothing like trying to get a babies attention when they don't want to.  So have a rattle or something else to capture those beautiful eyes.  Use a stuffed animal and your favorite baby voice to get their attention.  Get them excited in the photo to capture those memories.
