Summer Spotlight: Snoqualmie Falls Forest Theater

and a special discount code for tickets to see Cinderella!

August 2, 2012
If you haven't experienced Snoqualmie Falls Forest Theater and Family Park, you are missing out on a truly wonderful gem of our community!  I encourage you to add it to your summer bucket list, and I am willing to bet it will become an annual tradition for your family!

Just this past weekend, my family experienced Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella at the Forest Theater.  While I was there, I got a little "inside scoop" just for you!

To get there:  From Preston/Fall City Road you will see a clearly marked turn onto SE David Powell Road.  A few miles down the road, you'll see more signs.  The road does meager a bit; just keep going.

At the top:  You'll arrive at the parking lot and find the box office, a dining area with cloth-covered picnic tables,  bathrooms (I recommend a visit), and a very popular play structure.

The trail: Just past the play structure is the trail leading down to the amphitheater.  The trail is not paved but is well-maintained.  It's an easy walk that takes you into the forest.  You're surrounded by towering trees, and it's really quite magical!

Also please be aware that there are several accessible options. There's even a shuttle that takes people (and wheelchairs) down to the bottom of the theater, where it's a straight and flat trip to the seating.

Just before you get to the theater, there is a place to apply bug spray and to grab a seat cushion - donations (about $1 per cushion) are appreciated.

The theater:
"Forest theater" is the perfect way to describe what you will experience at this unique spot to see a show.  It's an outdoor amphitheater and seats about 250 audience members.  As you'd expect, the seats are rustic, which is part of the charm.  The benches do have backs, and with the rented cushion, I found them to be quite comfortable.  The rows are plenty wide and great for sitting with a group.

Before the show and during intermission: You can buy popcorn and bottles of water - each just $1.

The show:   Given the surroundings, I am quite certain any show would be terrific to watch at the Forest Theater.
The current production - Cinderella -  is fantastic, especially if you have a little princess living at your house.  However, this is not Disney's version of Cinderella which confused my five year old at first.   The show is very well done and the cast does an amazing job!  To some extent, the Fairy Godmother steals the show with his comedic entrances and powerful singing voice.  The musical numbers are so entertaining!

Shows are every Saturday at 2pm and 7pm and Sundays at 2pm -
now until August 26th.

After the show: My daughter and her friend loved having the chance to meet Cinderella and the Prince!  Be sure to bring a camera for this photo op!

The falls:  Before or after the show, I highly recommend the short hike to an overlook of Snoqualmie Falls.

Dinner: Along with the show, you can enjoy a delicious BBQ meal.  Dinners are between our Saturday shows and after the Sunday matinee (dinner starts at 4:30 and is served until 5:15).  The menu includes steak, salmon, chicken, vegetarian, and even a child's hot dog!
