Your Old Computer Can Make a Difference

CleanScapes "rethinking stuff" Store has partnered with InterConnection

January 31, 2013
You may be surprised to know that 25% of households in the United States don't have access to a computer, yet 40 million computers are discarded every year in the our country.  These statistics suggest a "digital divide" that requires some innovative thinking to find a solution.

Thanks to the CleanScapes "rethinking stuff" Store in Gilman Village, it just got a lot easier for families in Issaquah, Sammamish, and Snoqualmie Valley to get rid of and make a difference with their unwanted computers and electronics.

The CleanScapes Store
is now an official drop-off location for an organization known as InterConnection, a Seattle-based non-profit on a mission to provide refurbished laptops and desktops to non-profits and underserved communities in the US and worldwide.  Because InterConnection erases hard drives using U.S. Department of Defense protocol, you don't have to worry about personal information stored on the machine.

“CleanScapes is proud to partner with InterConnection, the leading nonprofit computer refurbisher in the Pacific Northwest,” said CleanScapes store manager Brenda DeVore.  ”We believe in the benefits of reuse, not only from an environmental standpoint, but also from a social standpoint. InterConnection’s certifications provide total piece of mind when it comes to data destruction, refurbishment and responsible recycling.”
