MILESTONE #1:

As I told you in week one, you would be seeing less of me soon, and each week I’m keeping to that promise! At the end of week four, on the Jenny Craig Program, I’m down 9 pounds and I’ve lost five inches overall. I’m already down a shirt size, and my pants, especially my jeans, are back to being comfortable.

All in all, I’m feeling healthy, I have a lot more energy throughout the day, and I’m making sure I make self-care a priority in my daily routine.

DNA RESULTS PART 3:

Last week I shared how my body processes food, based on Jenny Craig’s DNA Decoder Plan. The Plan measures 15 different markers, which offer insight into five key areas associated with your DNA. So what does your DNA have to do with your motivation to exercise? A lot actually.

Do you easily toss on your workout gear and can’t wait to get your heart pumping? Or do you consider it a squat when you go sit on the couch? I will say there is nothing better than the feeling you get from lacing up your shoes and heading outside for a walk, especially since we live in one the most scenic places. And according to my DNA, my body responds exceptionally well to cardiovascular exercise. My results also suggest that I am more likely to be naturally motivated to exercise.

During this time of social distancing, going for a long walk, while still practicing the state-mandated 6-foot rule, is probably one of the best things you can do for your own self-care. I know I’m enjoying the fresh air, and the sights and sounds of nature, all while taking care of me.

LIFESTYLE BALANCE:

The biggest thing I’ve worked on, while doing the Jenny Craig Program, is lifestyle balance. Let’s be honest, the laundry still needs to be done, bills still need to be paid and I need to enjoy time with my daughter. But balancing all that, and still taking care of myself, is now my number one priority. So yes, maybe that means the laundry doesn’t get folded until tomorrow, but I can take my daily walk and still get a good night’s sleep.

Here are a few, of the many, simple, healthy ways to make yourself a priority and still be a great parent.

  • Head out for a walk, with your kids, and create adventures of your own.
  • Have your kids help prep veggies, in advance, for a week or easy salads and snacks.
  • End your busy day with a bubble bath or relaxing shower.
  • Turn off your computer and go to bed 30 minutes early.

Being a parent is a balance act every single day, but don’t forget you are just as important as everyone else in your life, and taking time for self-care is important.

Next week I’ll share how my DNA affects my eating behaviors, as well as some of my favorite Jenny Craig meals and my weight loss through week five.
