Ever tried to cut your child’s hair? Chances are, despite your best intentions, that bowl cut wasn’t pretty. Cutting your dog’s hair is the same challenge—getting great results is much harder than it looks. Luckily for local dogs, dry grooming services are now available by experts at Civilized Nature Pet Supplies in Issaquah Highlands.

Located at Grand Ridge Plaza, Civilized Nature is known for high-quality pet food, toys and recreation gear, as well as customized nutrition advice. The store recently added dog grooming and nail trimming services. In-house expert Casey Austin, who trained under one of the best-regarded groomers in Washington, provides everything from a quick nail trim to a full groom, showcasing American Kennel Club breed-specific haircuts.
With more than 12 years’ experience, Casey is a pro at helping dogs feel at home. She advises that it’s never too early to accustom a dog or puppy to visiting the groomer. While some dogs initially dislike grooming, most become so comfortable that they look forward to the pampering (and treats). In addition, professional grooming is generally safer because the groomer has the correct equipment and experience. They can also advise on the best cut and take care of those tricky jobs, such as a light teeth cleaning and gland expression. Grooming ranges from $25 to $65, depending on the size of dog and condition and style of hair. Nail trims start at $10.

But Civilized Nature isn’t just for dogs. Civilized Nature is for cats, birds and small animals, too.
The store is one of the area’s largest retailers of raw pet foods, including Answers Goat’s Milk (which promotes a healthy digestive tract). New products arrive daily and include Open Farm, a dog food that uses only sustainable and ethically-raised ingredients. Civilized Nature also carries In Clover, a new line of dog and cat supplements that use human-grade ingredients and are designed to help with joint, dental, digestive, skin and coat health, plus weight management.

According to Civilized Nature Owner Paul Spencer, “Our team is passionate about finding solutions to customer’s needs rather than selling mass-manufactured products that don’t meet our ethical standards for sourcing and production. We’re proud to offer these products at competitive prices.”

Pets are always welcome at Civilized Nature. On any given day, you can meet the office dogs: Mojo the Whippet, Chowder the Pug, and Pepper, a new addition recently adopted from the Humane Society. Drop by with your pet anytime. New fall products are arriving daily, including winter booties and rain gear.
